After reading through the book, I believe it’s a precious book for all ages, even though it’s written for preschoolers. “Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go?” is a must have for your family. Discussion questions at the back of the book help you guide a conversation and she also lists ideas of how to honor the memory of your loved one. You’re not left on your own once the book is over. It’s a lovely tribute to her mom and sets the perfect backdrop for the sweet story. Lauren uses her mother’s paintings and drawings to illustrate along with some of her own paintings. It is a warm way to to bring up heavy topics like grief, loss, and death. The book is worded beautifully and gently making it so easy and soothing to read through with your littles. As Lauren began to try to explain her mother’s death to her young children, the book was born. Her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter began asking questions about “Grandma Dixie” and even described her as a “pretty bird”. My talented and sweet friend, Lauren Flake, wrote this book one year after her mother’s battle with early onset Alzheimer’s ended. A Dripping Springs ISD graduate and now Buda resident has created a way to open the dialogue of talking about loss with preschoolers. Where Did My Sweet Grandma Go?: A Preschooler’s Guide to Losing a Loved One If you have a preschooler and have struggled with the delicate and difficult conversation that surrounds the loss of a loved one, I recommend this book for your family.
